What would you do? (Not baby related)

I’ll try to keep this short:

I just saw on Facebook some pictures posted of a big birthday party my friend threw for her son’s 4th birthday and we were never told about it. They were posted by someone else at the party, not her. In fact, I’m FB friends with her whole family and none of them posted anything as if they didn’t want people left out to see. Her and her husband have been friends with me and my husband long before we had kids and we went to each other’s weddings. I consider them pretty good friends. We will sometimes go a month or two without being in touch but we both had babies last year and are obviously busy. We always get the families together several times a year. I was honestly hurt because every other kid they know seemed to be there and my 3 year old son would have had so much fun. I know most of the other parents there and would’ve enjoyed seeing everybody. We recently moved to another (less affluent) part of town (still only 15 min away.) She’s developed her own clique of mom friends who live in her part of town which I totally understand, yet I’ve met them all and get along with them fine. We last spoke when we got together around Xmas time and all had a wonderful time. I can’t understand why they didn’t invite us unless they just don’t like us anymore! I know I’m not part of that clique she’s in, but I thought we were good enough friends that it didn’t matter. I can’t help but wonder if it’s related to our socio economic status because we don’t make as much money and aren’t able to send our kids to an expensive preschool and have all the fancy things she and her mom clique friends have. I feel like I’m in high school again!

So, what would you do? Would you ignore it and just move on and assume she doesn’t regard me as good of a friend as I thought we were, or would you ask the awkward question of why you weren’t invited? I know I should probably ask, but it just seems like such an awkward thing to ask and I don’t want her to pity me.
