Has anyone gotten their tonsils removed being older ?

My doctor says I may have to and I’m so tired of going through strep throat every year right before the new year , other docs have said my tonsils are big also but my new one says I may need to so I don’t get sleep apnea when I’m older , also I have thyroid problems so .🤦🏾‍♀️

I got mine out in 9/18, almost 6 months ago! I am not longer getting sick! Very painful procedure but so worth it!!!

My husband had his removed at 24. His recovery was rough. He was in a lot of pain the first 7-10 days. He had a really difficult time swallowing anything, including his pain meds. He hardly ate, hardly drank anything. He lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. But he doesn’t regret it in the least. He always had tonsil stones, which are completely gone now. He always had sore throats. He doesn’t anymore. He still snores but nothing like he used to. I used to get woken up by his snoring.

Such a painful surgery and like a 3 week recovery...it was so hard for me, I was 16, I have a very high pain tolerance but girl 😭😭😭 it’s worth it Though, I used to get so sick and I’m rarely sick now.

I got mine out two days after I graduated high school. (Happy graduation 😂) I literally had strep every 3 months, it got to the point the doctor would just prescribe me medicine over the phone.  I've gotten sick with a sore throat (bad enough to go to the doctor) once since having them out 10 years ago. 
Procedure sucked, Recovery wasn't fun. I kept getting nauseous because of the morphine, then they'd give me anti-nausea meds that would knock me out. I ended up in recovery a lot longer than I should have. Recovery wasn't fun at all. The first "solid" food I had was a glazed donut from Krispy Kreme, to this day I can't eat them.  I lost 15 pounds while healing too because I was so afraid to eat. In the end, I'd do it again if it meant not having strep as often. (Because yes, you can still get strep without tonsils.)
