What does it mean if you test positive for strep B testing ? Should I worry ? The nurse told me I would need to take an antibiotic during labor but should I be concerned

It doesn’t affect you, but could be passed on to baby & be dangerous to him/her. As long as you get the antibiotic, baby should be fine!

I tested positive for it, as well. Nothing to worry about at all!

Stay off google, it will freak you out!! You’ll have the antibiotics and you and baby will be monitored closely by doctors after birth.

Regarding the antibiotic, start prepping your gut health with a nice strong probiotic, and consider using a baby/infant probiotic for when bub arrives, to help boost theirs too. You just apply it to your nipple, the bottle nipple, or mix into formula for them to consume 😊

Group B Strep is a normal gut bacteria that we all have, but for some women it migrated into their vagina which could cause complications (very very rare) for baby. As a result they will give you antibiotics and some rules are slightly different. In Ontario, at least my local hospital - if your water breaks at home you have to go into the hospital before 12h tonget the first dose of IV antibiotic (or midwife gives at home). Then you will get it again Every 4 hours during labour until baby arrives. The antibiotic they give you is Pencillin - unless you’re allergic then they give something else. Hope that helps!

Nothing to worry about at all! This is my second time being positive. You just get antibiotics during labor.

I tested positive with this pregnancy and my hope is I get to the hospital on time (they said it takes about 5 hours to get two rounds of antibiotics on). My doctor said if I don’t get the antibiotics they will just monitor me and baby for 48 hours. Seems like no big deal.
