What's the appeal of attachment parenting?!

(Posting this here because I know there are some strong polarized views on the subject)

I'll start by saying that I don't follow the method of attachment parenting. Although I TRULY believe every family should do what they feel works for them, I've just never personally known any attachment parents who seem to enjoy it. One attachment couple I know for instance, complains constantly about not getting sleep....but their 5- and 2-year-olds still sleep in the bed with them and wake up multiple times a night. Their marriage is rocky because they never spend time alone and the children are very dependent on them. The kids are shy and don't engage with other adults much. The 5-year-old started school still not fully potty trained. The mom and dad both always look haggard and unkempt. From an outside view, it just seems like they've sacrificed themselves at the altar of attachment parenting and I can't figure out why. I honestly feel sorry for them, and they cemented my desire not to live like that! Can anyone shed light on why these people are doing this to themselves?!
