How long did it take for metformin to regulate your cycle?
I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 18, but was never offered metformin as a means to regulate until I went to a new obgyn when my husband and I were ready to conceive. I have always gone months without a period, and then once it starts it will not stop. I have taken birth control since I was 15 to regulate my menstrual cycle.
Anyway, I started my menstrual cycle Jan. 17th after not having a period since July. I had my obgyn appointment the following day, and I started on 500 mg of metformin Jan 21st (after blood testing confirmed I was insulin-resistant). Each week I would add another 500 mg, until I got to 1500mg daily. So I’ve been consistently taking 1500mg for about a month now but am still spotting or full-on bleeding almost everyday.
So my question is, how long did it take for anyone else in a similar situation to see improvements with their irregular cycles/how long did it take for you to conceive?
I have a follow up with my doc in April, so I’m guessing I shouldn’t be getting my hopes up just yet?
