My husband and I started dating when I was 16 and he was a  freshman in college. We dated for 4 1/2 years before he proposed and got married shortly after. I was 21. I think it depends on the couple, the context of the relationship, and how young you are.

Depends on the couple. I wouldn’t want to be proposed to any earlier than 1-2 years. My husband and I met when I was 14, so obviously he didn’t propose until just before I turned 19, after a little more than 4 years together. We waited another 3-4 years before we actually got married, since I was finishing college. I was 22.
