Hey y’all, wondering if anyone can help or has been in a similar situation

My hubby and I are TTC (6 weeks pregnant right now but maybe having a MC)

Anyway....

He is Fijian and he told me in their culture the husband always gets to name the first born! He said we have to name our child after someone in his family because otherwise they won’t know where they come from.

He is set on Mathew (not sure of spelling maybe Matthew or Fijian way Maciu) but I don’t really like the name. I don’t hate it, but I know so many Matthews.

What could we do with nicknames?

Or has anyone called their child by their second name? For example I love Matthew James and we could call him Jamie but I’m still trying to get him to come around to that idea! We’ve got lots of time obviously but we have these conversations regularly haha
