Do you go on a date with someone you’re not particularly interested in?

I’m 21. I’ve never had a relationship nor dated anyone, I just had fuckbuddies here and there. I had lots of guys asking me out on a date, but never once did I say yes to any of them, even though they were nice. I wasn’t interested like that in them so I shut them down when they asked me on a date. Some of them were really insistant and I had to block them, others got the hint. I had a guy telling me I’m hard work and that’s why I never had a boyfriend. Well sorry not sorry but I know my worth and I ain’t dating anyone I meet 🤷🏻‍♀️ What do you do? Do you go on a date with someone even if you’re not really interested or do you shut it down? There’s actually a guy I like who asked me out a few days ago and I said yes for once in my life. The date is tomorrow, I’m excited

Yes! Go on those dates! Who cares if it doesn’t end up in a relationship, it can be social and fun and speaks nothing toward your self worth if it doesn’t work. Plus, you could develop an interest in that person once you got to know them. Go for it.

I think this is a two-part answer… The first part is to trust your instincts. If there’s a reason, even if you’re not sure what it is, why you don’t want to go on a date with someone, trust that. The second part is just really understanding that you can’t particularly have any real interest in a person based on anything substantial if you don’t spend time with them. So if you are basing your judgments of whether or not you are interested solely on appearances then I think it would be smart for you to get to know them better, even if it’s just one date, before you judge how much you like them.

I have a couple times. One time it was basically because my friends set me up with this guy, so I kinda used him to make this other guy jealous. I was young and immature and dumb, don’t judge! 🤦‍♀️ And then when I met my bf I wasn’t interested in him romantically for a bit, but then one day and I’ll never forget how I felt that day, I just changed my mind and that night we had our first kiss and I felt so magical. But ya if the spark just isn’t there, move on. I wanted to at least just be really good friends with my bf when we were just friends, but if you’re not even interested in being friends with the person, don’t waste your time.

Obviously dont go on dates with full on weirdos. However, i fully support what i like to call ‘dating practice.’  You go on dates just for practice. You learn what you like and what you dont like. You can practice how you speak, conversation topics, background etc. You can go on a second date or learn how to say ‘thanks but no thanks.’  
That way, when a decent one comes along you are prepared.
