Weaning

Has anyone began weaning baby off of the boob yet? I want to begin the process soon since I’ll be returning to work, but I’m not sure of a specific game plan. My LO doesn’t even like bottles, so I’m thinking maybe I should start pumping & bottling his milk for a few days so he can get used to that & then slowly begin to introduce formula. Any suggestions/experiences would be helpful!

You definitely need to do it slowly this early on. You’ll actually want to pump for awhile for 2 reasons: your boobs will not be kind to you if you quit cold turkey, and 2nd you will want to gradually change the ratio of formula to breast milk in each bottle so that baby’s stomach and digestive system have time to adapt to the new diet.

Definitely start slow. I introduced a bottle of pumped milk at about 5 weeks, she now gets a bottle about 3 times a week to keep her use to it. Shes had to have an entire days worth of bottles when I got my tubes tied and she did great

I’m weaning day feedings cold turkey right now. He takes a bottle and has had a taste of formula before so I’m not worried about it. I’m still breastfeeding at night and first thing in the morning for now. I’ll cut those feedings out once my body regulates to the day feedings. I’m taking ibuprofen for the pain and swelling and wearing a sports bra and breast pads 24/7. I’ll pump a tiny amount (less than an oz) if I get too uncomfortable.
