Is a Baby Shower for Gifts or Celebrating?

I need advice/ opinions pls! I was originally planning on having a baby shower but now I’m thinking the budget we were setting for the shower could just go to purchasing the items we want and need...🤔
I had trouble making myself put anything over $60 on the registry out of guilt and just not wanting to ask anyone for anything major for a child I made. Is that silly of me?
So now I’m thinking the whole thing is pointless and I won’t do it. Or we could still buy the things we need and have a casual event and have people bring diapers and/or gift cards. Is that tacky? Maybe I’m misunderstanding the meaning of a shower.

I think it’s for both. And people want to buy stuff for the baby. It can be weird when you get to the more expensive stuff, I do get that. I’m including everything on mine though, because the place I’m registering gives you and extended return period with no receipt for anything purchased off the registry.

Get creative with it! Maybe ask for diapers and wipes and all those little things you need to stock up on. Make the gift card thing something fun if you want... have them bring gift cards to their favorite stores or better.. favorite restaurants. I’m sure take out would be a life saver those first few weeks. 
If you don’t want them to get anything at all for you, maybe ask they donate money or needed items to a children’s organization? Focus more on the celebration aspect, but I definitely say have a baby shower! I’m not going to be able to have one, I wish I could!

I think it's both! But to be honest, I'm really excited for the cake and food🤣
On an Amazon registry, you can add a thing where anything over a certain price can be split and paid for by multiple people. We set it to anything over 50 or 100, I cant remember. I think target has something like that too.
If there isnt enough money for the product to be purchased, Amazon sends a gift card.

I think it’s for both. Celebrate the baby and to help give the parents some baby things. Since this is my second (both boys and will be 2 1/2 years apart) I felt a bit selfish having any sort of get together with gifts so was just thinking a bbq in the summer to invite people to come meet the baby. Well my mom decided she wants to have a diaper party for me but is keeping it to just a handful of people. Since diapers/wipes are pretty much the only thing we need for this one. We might still have the bbq since the diaper party is going to be very small.

Do what you want but definitely don’t feel guilty. A shower is to help a mom with all the additional expenses she is about to incur. I have always looked at it that way and continue now that I’m having one. We are having a party with presents but I think most people will opt for cash.

It’s for both. To celebrate the baby and to also gift things to the existing mother and father. I have a few expensive items on my registry but that doesn’t mean people are going to buy it and I won’t be upset if they don’t. I don’t even think half of the people I know will check my registry 😂
