Earliest ultrasound abdominally ?

Hi ladies, just wondering how early it is possible to have a ultrasound done abdominally please? Thank you

Typically for the 8 week scan they’ll try the abdominal ultrasound wand first, but if they’re having a hard time seeing things, they’ll go to a vaginal wand.

I had one at seven weeks in the ER and they found baby easily.

I had an internal at 8 weeks with my first (it was totally fine). Then with my second I had a external at 8 weeks. I think the internal one was clearer.

At my 8 week scan they tried abdominal, but I have a retroverted uterus and they couldn't see anything. Switched to transvaginal and there was baby. It didn't hurt or anything. But I've had thousands of ultrasounds done over the last 8 years. Never knew my uterus was retroverted until I got pregnant.

I had an external ultrasound done at 8 weeks. My tech said she typically tries external first and then will go to trans vaginal if needed. She said body type and the position of the uterus may determine what is needed. I’ve had several transvaginal ultrasounds and it was easier for me than having a Pap smear. It takes a little longer and they need to move the wand around which can be slightly uncomfortable but it was easy for me.
