12 week scan... any possibility of seeing gender?

Has anyone ever asked the sonographer to have a quick look and see if they can see the gender at their 12 week scan?
I’ve read quite a few people on here have had their gender revealed at 12-13 week scans, especially if it’s a boy, but I think they’re mostly American!
What’s the response likely to be in the UK with the NHS? Would they refuse to even look?

Hello. They can make a guess sometimes then but most will not as it’s considered very unreliable and they only usually tell you if they’re pretty sure. The NHS is also moving away from telling people the gender and some hospitals have recently implemented a policy of not telling what they think it is at the 20 week anomaly scan either so I think with this in mind it’s not that likely. You never know, if you are sure you want to know and you ask them to guess they may do. I was not told until 22 weeks and my hospital is quite relaxed regarding informing parents of the gender :) x

Some even refuse to tell you at the 20 week nhs scan!
I doubt it would be accurate at 12 weeks but by all means ask.
From what I gather, from 16 weeks it's fairly accurate, but you'd need a private scan if you want one at 16 weeks x

Mine wouldn’t even look for us, even at the 20 week scan, a different lady seemed reluctant to look 😅 had to go to window to the womb to find out for sure!

They may look, even then its a slim chance, but it's unlikely they'll tell you at your 12 weeks scan as it's hard to determine earlier than 16 weeks. 
At all my 12 week scan they've just done measurements, checked heartbeat, etc. No looking at genitalia as it's not required at this point.
