Fraternal twins happen when two eggs release. There are a number of things that can  contribute to this, one of which is genetics, but it is not necessary. Being overweight, older, or a couple other things increase your chances. Identical twins are completely random and everyone has the same chance of it happening.

Like was said already, identical twins are random and can happen to anyone. Fraternal ywins can be genetic, but it only matters if it runs in the woman's side of the gamily, since the trait is ovulating more than once in a single cycle. The man's geneology has nothing to do with it.

Twins run in both our families.  My husband was a twin * his brother passed and I have twin brothers! I'm pregnant with our fourth baby and shes a singleton! I cannot believe I haven't had twins yet!
