Is the Owlet sock worth it?

Question

I would love having some peace of mind and heart rate monitors are very appealing, but I don’t want to spend $300 if it’s no good.. I’ve heard such mixed reviews.

It's one of the first things we bought. I dont think I'll be able to sleep without it.
People complain it gives false alarms but I've read it's mostly due to user error. Also, I'd much rather have a false alarm and know when something is actually wrong than never know.

I LOVE it! We didn’t use it when he was first born and I feel like I never slept because I was always checking on him. Once we started using it, I could actually sleep. I did turn off yellow notifications because sometimes when he moves a certain way it won’t pick up the signal. Also, I had to go out of town for one night (torture!!!) but I could check on him using the app which helped put me at ease.

For us, it was definitely worth it!👌🏾 However, I cannot speak for everyone. We loved it and I would recommend to anyone because we had a great experience with it. As first-time parents, it gave us so much peace.🙌🏾 Although she was in the room with us for the first six months, the Owlet still gave us peace. We never received any false alarms, however I have read about people receiving false alarms so I know it definitely happens! Like I said, our experience with the Owlet was great and I can only speak on our experience.🤷🏾‍♀️ We also use a video monitor as well.

Gives false sense of security and is not recommended by the AAP. Has been proven to make no difference to risk of sids so then ultimately it doesn’t do its advertised job.

I love mine. The company also backs their product and will send you a new sensor if you have any issues in the first year.  I wouldn’t sleep without the extra reassurance. We still practice only safe sleeping conditions however babies can suffer from reflux, get sick, or have some other issues going on (sleep apnea or heart issues). It has saved lives... so why not. Also, I think I got a “false alarm” one time. It was for high heart rate, but whose to say it was false. Either way it wasn’t a big deal. It’s also valuable for tracking sleeping patterns!

My daughter is 5 days old now and we just tried the owlet for the first time last night. 
We went back and forth on purchasing the entire pregnancy and originally decided against it, but after panic when she was gurgling and sounding like she was having trouble breathing I ordered it and was so excited to have piece of mind. 
After one night we’ve decided it’s getting returned to amazon. We had one false alarm and another alarm when my husband tried to take her into the nursery to change her/calm her down while I was sleeping.   If you tend to walk her around a bunch or have some things set up in a nursery others in your room, I’d probably recommend against it from a sanity perspective.  
Also, their alarm ranges are VERY low, meaning they’ll only go off if there’s a very very serious problem.  For some that’s great, but I was thinking it’d work to let you know when something was starting to be a problem, not just urgently wrong.  I found myself updating the app and worrying about every reading and whether or not it was actually accurate. 
I know these work for MANY people to help reduce mama stress but it just didn’t work for us.  If you do purchase, make sure you go through a company with a great return policy!

Great for my daughter. Never a false alarm. Make sure the sock placement is correct!!! That’s the biggest mistake people make :)
