I have a small dog. Thinking of adopting a declawed cat, could the cat still hurt my dog?

Asking because I know the cat wouldn’t have it’s front paws but would the cat try to scratch my little dog with it’s back paws? My dog is playful :/

Declawing cats is actually a very cruel procedure that’s equivalent to cutting off the last knuckle of your fingers. It can even be painful and cause complications and deformities for the cat. It’s an irresponsible procedure that shouldn’t be done.
Cats and dogs can get along just fine, but it’s about their personalities, not their ability to scratch. Cats tend to be defensive, not offensive. They don’t go out of their way to attack dogs, but rather defend themselves if they feel threatened. And even if they do swat or bite, they’re not likely to cause any serious damage to the dog. 
Your best bet is to just make sure you introduce them properly and make sure that neither pet feels threatened.

I had adopted a declawed cat, since he couldn’t scratch he would instead bite. 
Also the bigger worry should be your dog hurting the cat, even if the dog has no history of aggressive behavior accidents happen. If it’s possible try to set up multiple meetings between the two before bringing the cat home.

If you do adopt a declawed cat, make sure it's an adult cat and make sure it has good temperament. My family friends got their kitten declawed years ago (before I knew how bad it was, or else of course I would have spoken up), and as the cat grew up she developed horrible aggression issues that likely stemmed back to the psychological effects of having her claws removed. I know there are many declawed cats that don't have this problem, but if you adopt one just make sure it's an adult and you know its temperament.

Uh yes it might, because scratching is a defense for the cat. So if your dog is being "playful " and the cat feels threatened, its gonna want to protect itself

Either animal could hurt the other. Even if they're just playing.  I wouldn't let that deter you from adopting a cat though. Rather take the time to allow them to get acclimated to one another. I've had cats and dogs growing up my entire life. They tend to coexist and not really pay attention to each other, at least that's how it's always been for mine.

Just adopt a shelter cat that is known to work well with dogs. Introduce them slowly and they will figure it out. 
My dog was a rescue from a puppy mill that had been shut down for cruelty and was adopted out by us too soon since the shelter was overwhelmed by puppies and didn’t want to keep any that were offered good homes. He was awful with other dogs (just didn’t know how to play and saw a lot of playful gestures as aggressive) but we wanted to get him a buddy. My cat is a rescue from a hoarding situation where he was the only cat among like 28 dogs so it was obvious that he was good with dogs. We brought him home and right off the bat my dog was spooked by him (has really only gotten punched in the snoot by other cats before) but within like 2 months they were playing and chasing each other and sleeping together and everything. It got to a point that my dog would go outside to potty and my cat would watch from the windows. 
So I am a firm believer in getting dogs kitty pals and vice-a-verse-a. Here is a couple pics of my duo 😍

PLEASE do not declaw cats or even get a cat if you want it declawed!! That is so so cruel and inhumane to do to a kitty. If you want a cat, then you put up with everything about the little kitty. Would you want a dog with their claws ripped out? Would you want to cut off your baby’s fingers from the knuckles down? That’s the equivalent of declawing a cat. Declawing cats hurt them, and sometimes as they grow older, they won’t be able to walk on their paws without being in pain. If you want a cat, then get scratch posts or soft paws. Soft paws are like acrylic nails for kitties, and it’s a better option than declawing.

that’s great that youre looking to adopt! ive had a dog and cat in the house together and it almost killed the cat. usually cats and dogs in the same house never ever work out. it usually works when they’re raised together. try adopting another dog instead.
