Taking baby out in public

Baby will be 3 months. Has had her first round of shots. Wanting to go to a family gathering at a restaurant. I know I can’t shelter her from germs forever. (We’ve already been out in public but in a carrier and away from germs).

Safe to take her? Extra precautions I should take if we go?

Everyone has a different comfort level when it comes to bringing their baby out in public. Personally we’ve brought our son out numerous times since he was a newborn, but it’s something we’re comfortable with. I say bring her out and enjoy the day, it’ll be fine especially if it’s something you’re wanting to do. My only advice is be honest with those around you (let people know you’re not comfortable with passing her around, ect). And trust your gut, if you don’t feel good about it closer to the actual event then you can always change your mind.

Yes take her! Have fun and don’t be too anxious. People are, for the most part, very understanding of protecting babies from germs. We haven’t stopped from doing our normal activities or going to events, just brought our baby along and she has had perfect health 😊

If you babywear that’s a great way to subtly keep baby away from people who want to hold and kiss baby. My son was born at the beginning of December and we didn’t want to have to miss all the family gatherings at Christmas so I put him in my Baby KTan wrap and we went. People could peek at him to take a look but I could keep him protected. I’ve also done that same thing to go to restaurants several times. We only have a convertible car seat so I wear him in restaurants and just carefully eat over him/ to the side.

My son is now 9 weeks old but due to family matters we’ve been taking him out since he was 8 days old. We just set boundaries on who could hold him and when. We also carried hand sanitizer 24/7 and had a no kiss rule.

I’ve been going out to eat at restaurants a handful of times already from when the baby was as little as 2 weeks old without any issues. I do take extra precautions tho. I keep my little one in his stroller (we have the doona which is a convertible car seat so it’s very compact) and we usually try to get a table away from others like in the corner so that the little one isn’t too close to people hovering over him. If we didn’t have a corner table away from others I would put a blanket covering most of the seat to prevent any germs from falling on him. We also usually go to eat during non peak times when the restaurant isn’t going to be packed. We have come across some judgemental people bc we were taking our baby out so young but it’s our choice and what we were comfortable with and guess what nothing bad happened except for a happy mama and happy baby to be out of the house getting some fresh air. My LO never sleeps better than after one of our outings 😊😊
