Short nursing times?

Question

My 1 week old only nurses for 5-6 minutes on one side only and then doesnt want anymore for another 2 hours. I have a pretty heavy stream that he needs to release and swallow the milk stored in his cheeks about 10 seconds after starting and my stream has caused him to cough too. Just wondering if the heavier flow is causing the shorter feedings and he is getting enough to eat or if I should be concerned about his eating..

Both of my children have been like this. As long as baby is gaining well and has wet diapers I wouldn't worry.

Is he gaining weight? Our son was only nursing 5 or so minutes but he wasn’t gaining weight. Turns out, he was supposed to be eating 10-15 or so minutes per side. We had to wake him up if he fell asleep or get his attention back on eating. He would eat just enough to not feel hungry but not enough to be a full feeding.

Id say it’s probably your heavy flow. As long as he’s gaining weight and has plenty of wet and dirty diapers don’t stress it.  Just make sure to feed him as often as he’s hungry

Some babies are just efficient eaters. When I was able to breastfeed my son wasn’t latched for more than 10 minutes.
