D&C and What to Expect

Sorry this is such a long post (scroll for TLDR) but could use some advice. I have had the longest period of my life since this past October. I went to the doctor, went through ultrasounds and a biopsy. Had my normal pap test and everything came back normal. I took a round if Provera for 5 days but I ended up bleeding more. My doctor has given me choices on what to do to have the bleeding stop but basically the logical choice is IUD or a D&C. I can't get on regular birth control because I have HBP but I also get very sick when I take it. I don't like the idea of an IUD so I am leaning towards the D&C. Can anyone give any advice on getting a D&C? Did it help? Any complications? Is there anything I should know?

TLDR: Thinking of getting a D&C and am scared and have no idea what to expect.
