Insurance won’t cover breast pump?!

I have called my insurance twice and emailed them asking if they would cover the purchase or rental of a breast pump and they are saying breast pumps are not covered at all. From my research the Affordable Care Act mandates insurance companies cover breast pumps either for purchase or rent. Does anyone have any experience with this? What should I do at this point or who should I contact?

My insurance said they wouldn’t cover it. I filled out the form on Aeroflow anyway. They got my OB to write a prescription and my insurance covered it 100%.

I know some changes and decreased mandatory coverage has occurred under the new administration. Plans with less coverage are now allowed on the market again. So it may depend on your particular plan, unfortunately. The mandatory coverage of pumps was a good thing for many women.

I just got my pump through my insurance without any issues and so did all my friends (3 people in the last 6 months). They did send paperwork to my doctor to fill out though.

I went through Edge Park. It’s a third party that will gather your information for your insurance and then they will get the prescription from your doctors office. Once they get the insurance approval they will mail pump directly to you. When I did it I had to select a different pump then originally picked because it was only approved if it was hospital approved pump brand like spectra or  medela. I’m not sure if all insurance covers the pumps though.

If you are on a plan with your work it could have been grandfathered in and doesn't cover it.

I got mine through Aeroflow and they did all of the hard work for me! I just entered my personal info and they even contacted the Dr’s office for me. It shipped to me house in a few days!

With my first in 2016, my insurance would only cover a manual pump which was around $20 so I never bothered submitting it to insurance. 
With this pregnancy,  I have a different insurance and they will cover a standard electric pump as long as I get a prescription and get it through a medical supply company. If I want a hospital grade one, then I can rent one for up to 1 year.

Mine won't cover it either unless the baby is born early and has to go to the NICU. Like wtf??
