Miracle Baby Charlotte is born!
Little Miss Charlotte was born 3/5/19 at 2:26am. Today she had her first sponge bath this morning, and is doing truly amazing. She is jaundiced and will need light treatment for a period of time
Her MRI results came back, same as before. She is still diagnosed with semi lobar holoprosencephaly, the only new finding is she is absent of her olfactory bulbs. This is very devastating for me and my husband, because she will have no sense of smell and her taste will be worse too.
She is getting an eye exam today, but we know she can see us, she follows us around the room and follows our voices. She also reacts to the flashlight. She also passed her hearing test.
The bright side is they are already talking about going home. Could still be several days, but because she is able to breath on her own, is doing well at maintaining her body temperature, and is feeding almost entirely by bottle now, we are finally in talks of going home.
They are still monitoring blood glucose, sodium levels and hormones levels as these can all be problematic for her diagnosis. But so far so good on those.
When we first found out about Charlotte's condition we were told she will be incompatible with life. She is proving them wrong on every level. They are very impressed with her ability to drink from a bottle without aspirating. We hope we can get the NG tube out soon as well.
She is our miracle baby, she is simply amazing us all
