What can we do to make cities safer?
This question is inspired by something that happened earlier tonight.
So earlier tonight, while relaxing in my living room, I hear gunshots outside. It turns out there was a shooting at the corner of my street. This is the second shooting in the same spot in the last year and a half.
Last time it happened, counsel people and police said that they would have community meetings and let residents know about them so we could brainstorm and make our section of the city safer, however, that never happened.
What do you think citizens can do to make their neighborhoods safer? What do you think police and city government could do to make the city safer? Do you think the responsibility should fall more on police patrolling And utilizing a community policing approach or on the government to create policies and laws?
Just for perspective, I live in a city that has had 175 shooting victims as of March 7th of this year.
