When Should You Announce

Question

I'm struggling with what's right or wrong.  I've had a miscarriage previously. We told our families then had to recant the news a day later. Some people say to wait until after the first trimester, but then I read about people miscarrying at 23 weeks, etc.  So is there ever a "good" time to announce you're pregnant?  I want to share the news but don't want there to be another let down for our families.  I mean realistically until the baby is born full term, there is no guarantee there won't be an issue or a loss.

I just had a miscarriage in July. I got a positive test this past Friday and Tuesday is my first appt. My birthday is Friday so our parents and close friends are getting together. I want to tell my parents, but my husband does not. The way I look at it is if something were to happen again I would need their support just like I did the last time. I will most likely spill the beans Saturday.

Thanks everyone.  I didnt mean announce on social media.  We arent very fond of posting too much about our personal life. Especially when half the people on Facebook never check on you anyway, why should they share in the joy.  I have told my immediate family but no friends and he hasnt told anyone yet.  Guess I'm just paranoid something bad will come of it.  I have another ultrasound next week at 7 weeks 2 days so hoping once we have a heartbeat then he will be willing to share.  This is the first for both of us besides the miscarriage and we are 35 and 42!

Found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago, we told our families right away. I suffered one miscarriage and have a 12 month old daughter. I'll probably tell friends as I see them, after suffering my misscarriage a was a mess and it's nice to have people supporting you, plus they understood why I skipped certain family functions (like a gender reveal). I don't announce on soccal media  for anything so that's not a concern

I chose to tell my parents as soon as I found out because I figure even if I do miscarry, I would want to lean on them for support, anyway. Miscarriages are not shameful and we can’t blame our bodies for life not going as planned. It’s my hope that even if this baby doesn’t make it, I still feel proud of my body for creating life in the first place and we can try again. It’s such a personal choice but just my two cents.

I lost my son in December. He was almost two. I’m bow almost 7 weeks pregnant and I don’t know what people are gonna think or say so I’m waiting till after I know what we are having. Only telling family during that time. Not really gonna post it on social media!

I think the most common time to wait is around 12 weeks. That is when you are past the time women generally miscarry. It is possible to miscarry after 12 weeks but its uncommon.

Well at some point it makes sense to announce because it's obvious.  Like, at 23 weeks most people look visibly different from their norm. 
But you can announce whenever you feel like it.  It's 100 percent personal.  
Last time for me I never announced, technically.  I told my family early on and then just told people in person if it came up.  Eventually there were pics of me on FB looking huge and I think people assumed...but I never did officially say anything.

They say after the first trimester as your risk of miscarriage goes down SIGNIFICANTLY. Like less than 2% chance. Unfortunately, there’s always a small chance of miscarriage. IMO telling people around the end of the first trimester is best... even though there will still be that worry in the back of your head, maybe something about people knowing will help you stay positive and feel supported ☺️
