Do you think genetics play a roll in how effective hormonal birth control is?

Thia

So I just read an article on CNN that they're seeing that women whose hormonal bc like the pill fails have a genetic marker that keeps their bodies making the enzyme that the pill blocks, so their bc pill may fail them. This would explain why some women say they did everything right, taking it at the same time every day, but it still failed them.

I used to work at a pregnancy center. I've seen bc, all types of it, fail for various reasons, most commonly user error. But I personally feel this could be spot on. What do you guys think?
