Took these just now for this post 😂 these are my natural nails will gel!  I do gel because they last longer and dry on the spot lol I don’t have to wait for polish to dry. My nails only got really weak from gel when I would get them done every 2 weeks... I didn’t give my nails time to breathe lol

There are several types of enhancements:
Acrylic -
• Traditional liquid and powder, uses the liquid to cure or harden the acrylic powder. Can be used with tips, natural (overlay) or sculpted.
• “Dip Powder” is colored acrylic powder that uses a resin or glue to cure/harden the acrylic powder. Can be used with tips or as an overlay.
Both types are prepped and filed the same.
Gel - 
• Soak off gel - Colored gel that uses a UV/LED light to cure. Can be used over natural nails, hard gel, polygel or acrylic enhancements. 
• hard gel - a viscous gel that uses a UV/LED light to cure. It typically comes in clear, natural, pink and white. Typically does not soak off, but there are brands that soak off. Can be used as an overlay, with tips or sculpted. 
•polygel — a hybrid gel, that is more malleable, cures with a UV/LED light. Can be used as an overlay, tips or sculpted.
All types are prepped the same as acrylic nails. Hard gel and polygel can be filed to shape like acrylic. 
All of these can last 2-4 weeks before needing to fill/rebalance with proper prep and maintenance at home.

'Better' depends on what you want and how you are with your hands, your lifestyle and job. 
Acrylics are hard and more durable than hard gel but more likely to damage nails if done or removed improperly. 
Dip is easier to do and more gentle on nails because theres less filing but in my experience it doesnt last as long.
Gels are best if you dont have a job that requires use of your hands or in and put of water a lot. You have to be easy on them or they will peel and damage your nails. Also theres the risk of UV use.

I’ve only ever gotten acrylics and my nails were a little ruined for a couple weeks after taking them off but honestly not really a big deal to me just some peeling
