Do you wash pre-washed salad mixes/lettuce?

Okay so this is really gross so I had to share on here so that maybe I can save some people from some super gross stuff. WASH YOUR SO CALLED PRE WASHED LETTUCE!! I used to never do it, why would I, it’s already washed right? WRONG. The two past times I’ve gotten lettuce lately (arugula) I decided to check super well to see if I could see anything. Guess what I found? SEVERAL very tiny tiny lice ish things crawling around. Yup, alive and well. I “threw” down the salad hard on the plate and that’s when they “fell off” I guess. More and more turned up after each “toss”. This was two different so called pre washed salads. I’m never not washing at home ever again!! 🤢

I do sometimes. Idk that kind of stuff doesn’t gross me out. I expect there to be bugs in food sometimes.

I just buy a head of lettuce when I make salad at home. That’s super nasty though- washing wouldn’t even suffice for me - id just toss it if I saw bugs! (Yes I know that at some point they all have had bugs or something on it since they are from the ground - but out of sight, out of mind).

The pre-washed stuff is is washed, but those bugs aren’t easy to wash away, no matter how much you wash it again. It’s usually best to soak produce in white vinegar to kill any bacteria and bugs.

I live on an organic vegetable farm, we grow lettuce and many other types of greens.  Unless we have a commercial certified kitchen, we aren’t able, by law, to call our greens washed.  They are rinsed only.  If your lettuce is labeled washed from the store, it can be likely cleaner then it would be after you wash it. Although you are probably immune to any germs that are in your own kitchen, so washing is recommended with many things.  Bugs are a fact of life, you likely had aphids which are completely harmless to you.  I eat lettuce out of the field, dirt and all, probably eaten a lot of bugs, too.  The cleaner our world gets, the more allergies and problems we are going to get.  So eat a little dirt sometimes and eat the bugs, they are good protein.  There is millions of tons of food wasted every year, which means wasted resources like water, land, and nutrients.  If there’s a bug or rotten part, get it out and eat the rest of the salad or vegetable.  If anyone wants to help reduce their “footprint” on the world, food waste is a good place to start.

With vegetables and stuff I'm not too worried. If you were to grow it in your own personal garden they'd have bugs as well. A good rinse works in both cases. 
Now when it comes to meat that's a no go for me.

I dont wash pre chopped salad mixes and stuff cuz that makes 0 sense but like pre packaged romaine lettuce or heads of lettuce yes. Especially organic stuff because lettuce aphids are quite common if not using pesticides, etc.
