Did you tell your boss about your IVF treatment schedule?

Just started IVF. I have a lot of appointments ahead of me. I’m afraid it’ll look suspicious if I’m in and out of the office for the next month or so. Please help! If yes or no, what did you say?

Yeh I felt I had to, to explain the appointments and she was very supportive.

I don't work, but I had husband tell only his boss. Boss man isn't a gossip, and told husband to take off as much as needed (he's salaried) for the process!

In my job I definitely have to communicate what's going on otherwise things get very difficult.

I would have preferred not to,  but I felt I needed to give her a heads up that I would need to miss a few meetings and not be as available for travel.

I asked my boss for more flexibility with my schedule for the next few month. I haven’t started IVF yet and didn’t have a schedule planned out. But he was understanding and just asked for me to communicate if I was late or needed to take time off etc. I kept it very simple and didn’t provide details.

My boss is very understanding so I had no issues with telling her. And she allowed me to change my work from home on the days of my appts so I wouldn’t have to use personal time or vacation days

My boss is also a personal friend so I think it really depends on you and your boss' relationship. I, in general, am a very open person and probably would have told my boss the general picture regardless because, especially during the retrieval, my hours got wonky with so many appts. My boss and I are close enough that she was one of the few people I told about pretty much everything. It's been really great for my stress knowing I don't need to worry about work during all of this. She has no idea how grateful I am for her support 🙏

Yes i had to because I work from home 6a-2:30p. All of the monitoring appts were at 7:30am so I changed my schedule during that time.

I have a pretty good relationship with my boss so I was just honest with what we were doing and how I wasn't sure how much time I was going to be missing from work since my clinic is an hour away.
He was very receptive and has allowed me the opportunity to make up any time that I've missed so I don't have to cut into my vacation too much.

I told my boss since there were a lot of appointments. I tried to book all of the monitoring around 7am though so I wouldn’t be that late or at all. He’s known about the majority of my miscarriages because the most of them I’ve need a D&E. One was natural and very painful so I had to leave work.
