Can y’all relate?

So I’m 230lbs I been at this weight for about 4 years now I don’t gain or lose. I’m 5wks and 2 days pregnant and the doctor thinks I’m obese.....long story short everything comes out good no high bp, not diabetic, no high cholesterol etc etc.

That was me. I had to do an early glucose test just because of my BMI. I was 5’7 and 240 when I got pregnant. I ended up losing weight in first trimester and then my total pregnancy weight gain was only 12 lbs. My blood pressure was perfect all pregnancy, passed the glucose test without an issue. They still just monitor you more because being obese puts baby at risk for different issues even if BP and sugar are fine

Same for me. I'm 236, 5'7 and they categorized me as high risk bc of my BMI. I don't have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or anything. I actually lost 11 pounds in the beginning of my pregnancy. Ive gained it back now but they just like to monitor "obese" labeled people in case an issue arises.

My doctor never mentioned my weight but obese is marked everywhere in my chart lol.

BMI is BS! I think a lot of the health problems that are supposedly related to obesity are actually related to the stress/shame placed on larger people by doctors and society which leads to unhealthy behaviors like yo-yo dieting. Sometimes weight is correlated with other health problems like diabetes and heart disease, but correlation is not causation! Being pregnant and only treated by midwives has been so empowering because I finally see my body as strong and healthy, not problematic just because of its size. Our bodies are amazing!

Giiiiiirl, doctors are so quick with that obese word, my first doctor said the same thing. I have an amazing midwife now who doesn’t care much about weight as long as blood pressure, glucose tolerance and all that is good. We plus sized girls can have healthy happy pregnancies. I’m 5’5 and 236 lbs at 34w3days and everything is going perfectly.
