How does a woman know when her regular cycle is coming after she has her baby and ends her postpartum menstrual?

Answer

I am only 5 weeks PP so I'm not 100% sure, but the PP bleeding slows down considerably or even stops around 4 to 6 weeks. 
I barely have a few drops now and then, so when period comes, you can tell the difference because the bleeding will increase, possibly pain will be a symptom for some women and you will need to change the pads often. Sometimes the way period manifests might be slightly different PP, for example for my sister the pain never returned, but you will know if you are having your period. 
I hope it won't happen as I heard it can affect breastfeeding.

Answer

For me it went back to the same symptoms as before pregnancy. Moody, hungry and cramps. The first few were extra long and heavy and then they went back to a normal 28 day cycle.
