Toddler & Outings

Do your little ones follow where you need them to go, or at least do so if you hold their hand? If so, is there anything you did to help cooperation with that? My son gets so frustrated when I try to have him walk where we need to that he has a meltdown and I end up picking him up and carrying him or having him in his stroller at the store. He's fine if he gets to choose which direction he walks. Not sure if I should just be more persistent or if I'm just expecting too much of a 1 year old 😆 For age reference, he's a late June baby.
