Anyone’s January ‘18 baby still using pacifiers?

Question

Our pediatrician today gave us a lot of judgement for still allowing our 14 month old a pacifier on occasion. She only really uses it when fussy or sleeping. We have been very diligent about decreasing its use, but she doesn’t fall asleep without it. What was most successful for you when getting rid of the pacifier attachment?

Yes. Always for nap. Usually if he wakes in the middle of the night. Sometimes when we are out and about and he starts to cry. Not usually when he is awake around the house. It’s working for us, so I’m not going to push getting rid of it yet.

Yes. Our babe uses his. Our pediatrican encouraged us to avoid thumb sucking. His point is you can remove the paci eventually but not their hands!

Our 14 month old (Jan 8) still uses her pacifier. We talked to her dentist & he said it doesn’t really become an issue until closer to age 2. So we’re very slowly weaning her. She still uses a bottle but only at nap time/bed time.

After ages of him not having it except when sleeping, we stopped giving it for the first nap, then after a couple of days also stopped for the second nap. Then once that was all ok, maybe a week, we tried for the overnight sleep - for which he would go to sleep ok without it, but we would need to give it to him about 10pm because he would wake unsettled.
Eventually he stopped needing it during the night too.
We still have one to give him though, for times he is unwell, and we had to go to the hospital the other day, so he got it then too.

Mine stopped taking his around 6 months, he just stopped wanting it. I didn't push it, i was glad to let him give it up. I've heard it's hard to get them to give it up as they get older. My other 2 never took a pacifier so I wasnt sure what to expect. But ive seen one kid in the 3 year old room at my work that still takes a pacifier.

15 months and still going strong. I felt judged by our pediatrician too, but it took me 8 months to get this girl to sleep through the night! I’m not about to mess it up now! She won’t have it forever. 🤷🏼‍♀️

January 19.. i stopped giving my daughter a pacifier since she got her first tooth.

For my son we found all of them and threw them away. At first we tried only bedtime but he would cry for it at nap time. So we threw them away and out of sight out of mind. He cried the first day we rocked him till he fell asleep. The second day he just wined and fell alseep. Third day he was back to being layed doen in his crib and falling alseep on his own.
