Varicocele surgery success anyone?

After a year of trying, another year of tests, we found out my husband has a varicocele that may be contributing to his low sperm count. Now we are in 5 months of waiting for surgery. (Only a couple more months to go!)  otherwise his hormones and dna results are fine. And all my tests are good 
Has anyone had luck conceiving naturally after surgery? Or iui? We were told it might not get us out of needing ivf :(

Hubby got his done Friday, he’s having bruising and swelling.  He had a large left varicocele his urologist is very positive that this surgery will help us get pregnant! He was low on his testosterone and started taking clomid and his levels tripled. 
At the first SA we did it at a hospital and it said 0mil that he was Azoospermic, the urologist referrers us to a fertility clinic just to do SA’s, the last two were 19 motile and the most recent one was 11 motile but it still showed as a count of 0mil. So he has some but not enough to get pregnant, I hope that now with the surgery and him taking 25 mg of clomid daily will work.

We have the same diagnosis, my husband is 33. He is taking clomid. And we are opting to skip surgery and go straight to ivf (icis). 
*We are in the US and live in a mandated state for infertility coverage for insurance purposes.

How did they not diagnos the vericocele sooner? I am going through something similar with my husband.

I’ve seen a lot of people post that they’ve had success after! We had a zero sperm diagnosis and hoped for a reason but unfortunately there isn’t one.. from what I have read it seems worth an attempt! You can do a search for a topic and read what others have posted ... and there are two male factor groups
