Gestational diabetic planned c-section, when did you have the baby?

I have heard different things. I have heard that the doctor could decide to deliver at 36/37 weeks and I have also heard that the doctor will not take the baby until 39 weeks. I was diagnosed GD early at 12 weeks. I have been trying to control it with diet but my numbers are elevated at times so I may need insulin. So I am just wondering for any other mommas diagnosed with GD, when did you deliver?

It depends on how big the baby gets. If you get your numbers under control your baby should grow normally and you can deliver later. If your numbers are out of control your baby can be much bigger and you may need to deliver early.

Generally speaking, doctors won't induce you or do a scheduled c section before 39 weeks unless there is a problem. Gd is a risk factor, not a problem per se as long as you are managing it. My baby is measuring huge (9lbs already) so my c section is scheduled for 39 weeks. To go earlier they would have needed evidence that there was a risk to me or baby - pre-eclampsia, cholestasis, reduced fetal movement (I'm convinced my little guy has taken up interpretive dance in there 😂) etc.

I also have gestational diabetes and am on meds and insulin to control it, I have been able to get my numbers under control. The drs will start doing twice weekly ultrasounds to monitor the baby and as long as everything looks good they will most likely do it at 39 weeks so the brain and lungs can fully develop. I go in on Wednesday for my csection 😊

If you keep your numbers under control and the baby is measuring normally then they will let you go to your due date most likely
