When did you start maternity leave?

The reason I’m asking is that I’m not stopping work until 36 weeks, which at the time I thought was pretty reasonable.
However I’m a teacher at a college, which is quite physically demanding (on my feet for a lot of the day, not having freedom over when I go to the toilet or take a break, having to start classes at the start time so no flexibility in that sense etc) but also mentally demanding (needing to mark and plan lessons, needing to be on the ball in classes and so on). 
I’m really struggling these last couple of weeks. I’ve got another three weeks because that’s when the Easter holidays start and it’s a natural end, but I’m wondering when it would be justifiable for me to ask to start earlier.

I'm a RN. I work 12 hour shifts almost entirely on my feet on a busy medical/surgical floor. With my son I worked until my last scheduled shift at 39+5. Around 2pm while at work, my water broke and so I called the doc who advised me to go upstairs and get checked. I rode the elevators up 2 floors and had my son 14 hours later.

I’m a RN, work 12 hr midnight shifts with most nights no time to sit, eat, or even go to the bathroom. I worked until I was 39+3. I would have worked until I delivered at 40+1 but my schedule happened to put me on my stretch off right before my due date

I teach elementary special ed and am 38 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just had to make it work since I don’t have the days banked to take and didn’t want to take leave without pay.

Here in the US, we get 12 weeks. Some companies offer a little more, some a little less. If my clock starts four weeks before baby is born, that’s 4 less weeks I get to have with them. I waited until my daughter was born last time and I’d do the same if it happens for us again.

I'm one of those lucky ones who has paid leave 6 weeks before my due date. I honestly have no idea how I would have dealt with work if I had to. I do not function at all 😩
I would have had to talk to my doctor about sick leave then.

In in Nevada and I do not get any maternity I don’t even get Fula because our company has less than 60 employees so I’m working up till I deliver taking 2 weeks off and then it is back to work.

I worked to 40/41 weeks. I had my daughter at 42. I was planning to work until I went into labor, but a friend talked me into stopping a bit early.

I teach middle school and worked until I delivered. He arrived 3 weeks early, so my husband (also a teacher) and I were writing and emailing lessons plans while in the hospital (we were there for a week). Those last two weeks of school were a bit chaotic for the kids! I thought for sure I would make it to the end of the year.
