Kick Counts?

Question

This may sound dumb, but the way my doctor explained them again today has me kinda confused on when I need to do them, and how long I need to do it for when I am watching. Anyone mind explaining? Thank you in advance.

You don't really need to do em. My Ob Explained this way. 
I pick a time of the day or night when he's the most active & i need to have atleast 10 kicks in less than 2 hours. i always gotten like 10 kicks in less than 5 mins lol. The Only time i actually kick count it's if i've had a really busy day & i don't remember if i've felt my baby move. Other wise i just leave it like that.

I didn’t do these with my first and I don’t really do it now. I understand the point is to make sure baby remains active and doesn’t have a significant decline in activity but I just can’t sit there and count it out. My baby’s movements are not like ‘kicks’ it’s like fluid motion of the baby moving so to me that’s hard to count. I just focus on baby moving similar from day to day.

Kick counts are to learn and document your baby's habits. You pick a specific time of day (mine is after work around midnight). Sit or lay down and drink some cold water or juice. There's an app called Count the Kicks that is perfect for documenting. Figure out how long it normally takes for your baby. If your baby normally takes 5 minutes to get all 10 kicks and then takes 90 minutes you'll know something is off. Even though that'll be 10 kicks in 2 hours, something could still be very wrong.
