Did you save $$$ before having a baby?

Question

My husband and I have been trying, life’s been busy so we haven’t saved as much as we would have hoped for by now in general, not just for a baby
. 
We are going to start Femara/Clomid next month but everything says you should save 10-20k just for a baby. 
Obviously, that would be nice but is not super easy to save that amount when you have medical bills, house expenses, etc. 
Just curious if anyone felt like they saved and it was a huge weight lifted or if they didn’t save and were fine.

I recommend a small savings at least to cover medical bills and maternity leave. Also remember if you return to work you will have daycare expenses $$$ so you’ll have less disposable income after baby arrives. Better to save now while it’s easier

We didn’t save a penny and we’re fine. i don’t think you need to save 10-20k just for a baby. They don’t need much. If you breastfeed you don’t have to spend money to feed them for the first year. Just diapers and clothes.

Our first child will be born right before our 10 year wedding anniversary, we’ve been saving since we got married and individually before marriage so we didn’t need to start saving now specifically for baby

Lol girl that’s no true me and my hubby got married and it was hard to get a job back then in 2010 of course we weren’t trying to get pregnant but just enjoying each other after our marriage and I got pregnant 3 months after our wedding had a baby and my husband barley made any money and we serviced lol now have 7 babies and trying for #8 we love our children and they have a pretty good life!!!!

Nope. I just went w it. You do what you gotta do. I don’t find babies are really that expensive.

I mean, we just save in general. We like to keep our accounts at a certain amount and if bills get to high we cut back in other areas. 
I wouldn’t just set aside 10-20k and have a baby fund though. I’ve been trying for years with no luck so we try to still treat ourselves and enjoy life. Obviously it’s good to have some money saved but I don’t think it’s necessary to have a crazy amount saved for something that isn’t guaranteed. Once I find out I’m pregnant I’ll create a new account but just put about 5k in and let interest build for the child. And I’ll use it for any unexpected costs but everyday costs will just come from my normal account. 
Everyone finds a way to live within their means.

Our oldest (7) was a surprise lol so we had nothing saved! I became a SAHM which helped a lot. We had a couple thousand saved before trying for our second who is now 2!
