Dilation?

Question

I have a few questions for you momma's out there! 
When do Drs normally start checking for dilation? 
How do they check?
Does it hurt, is it uncomfortable? 
I'm in the beginning of my 3rd trimester (28 weeks). I know it'll still be a good few weeks before all of this but I'd like to get as much info as I can!

I’m 33 weeks and not looking forward to this part. I’ve always found pelvic exams to be extremely uncomfortable

Most doctors start at 36 weeks. Some as late as 39 weeks or even more annoying (IMO) some won’t check till you are in labor. 
They have to do a pelvic exam. They insert two fingers and depending how high up your cervix is will decide the pain. 
Relax, open your legs as much as possible. Let your legs flop open. Don’t tense up it will make it worse.

I don’t remember exactly; but I know I was checked like 3-5 times so probably around 36ish weeks. In my experience they weren’t bad and they weren’t uncomfortable. My doctor did a membrane sweep at 39 weeks and even that wasn’t bad. But I definitely agree that things feel different for everyone. I ended up going into labor just over 24 hours after my membrane sweep.

My dr will check 37 weeks and on unless she feels a need sooner . I was check at 32 weeks due to contractions but if there is no need some drs don’t check at all.

i Asked my OB & he said he won't be checking until 39 weeks or unless i'm having contraction. only because he doesn't want to cause an infections.

I don’t get checked till after 40weeks. It’s not really necessary unless for medical reasons. Some women walk around dilated for weeks and others don’t dilate till labor.
