Potty training, 20 month old boy?

You have to find what motivates YOUR child. Poop is also the hardest hurdle. My daughter was fully pee trained for a week before I finally made progress on pooping. Now she’s fully potty trained. All in all, it took three weeks.
Don’t use diapers! It slows the progress. She was holding her poop in for so long (2+ days) and it’d cause her have to go immediately when she finally couldn’t hold it anymore so we put her back in a diaper just in hopes she would clear herself out and she always did but it prolonged the process.
My toddler is motivated by surprise toys. Candy didn’t work, the potty chart didn’t work, stickers didn’t work. I got her some surprise toys (way more expensive 🤦🏻‍♀️) but within a week she was fully trained.

20 months is pretty young.  Some kids can train that early, but many train much later.
I would say he his not ready yet.
Our kids trained later.  They had the signs of readiness for a long time, they just lacked the will to actually do it.  It was incredibly frustrating, but potty training is one of those things you can’t force.

Definitely sounds like your son is ready for potty training, but there needs to be consistency. Check out the book, Oh Crap! Potty Training. I’m a toddler teacher and every parent who has followed the advice in that book has had wonderful results.

Try a sticker chart. My daughter loved it and it’s a great way to reward without lollies. You could also look up the 3 day potty training method. I did that at 22 months and she’s never had a poop accident. Pees took a bit longer (sometimes she couldn’t wait long enough to get to the potty) but it worked really well in conjunction with the sticker chart

I started training my son just recently. New year new level... He will be 3 in May, figured well take the plunge ga no pun intended 😂 Anyway my son likes the timer so I let him play with that while he's in the potty. I haven't let him do flushing yet. He's only using his personal kid potty right now. He likes book so that helps kill time. I can just leave him in there for 10 mins or 30 depending if its #2. Just recently he has been telling he has to go so that's been a big help.
