Birth certificate when flying with baby. Do i need the ORIGINAL birth certificate?

My SIL had to have a copy one time and then the other time she just needed a picture on her phone and the other time she didn't need anything. I didn't need anything for my son

I worked for a major airline and the only time we ever checked a child’s birth certificate was if they were a lap infant and looked like they could potentially be older than two. The only other time was if it was a teenager without any form of ID who looked like they could be 18+ (under 18 you do not need an ID). I’m speaking about state to state flights. Flying out of the country has its own unique set of things requires. But just from state to state I really only needed to know if the lap infant was under two or the young adult without an ID was under 18. And a copy absolutely sufficed. But it doesn’t hurt to check with your airline. If your child looks like they are under two and you are flying to another state, chances are no one will ask you for it.

I flew Southwest and they accepted a copy. The agent actually said I could have just taken a picture with my phone and shown that.

We didn’t take anything. We figured if they questioned us, we could show them the hundreds of pictures we have of her on our phones. They didn’t say anything.

Depends on the airline, some require the original some will take a copy. Check the airlines website 👍🏼
