When do you switch baby bottle heads for stronger flow?

I see that the bottles have numbers nipple 1 2 3 etc. when do you know to give them one with a stronger flow. What ages?

They’ll let you know. My son started refusing his bottles when he needed more flow, he would get so frustrated and give up on the bottle until I figured it out and tried the next size nipple. Some babies are perfectly content with the first size forever though.

Never switched out the nipples for my daughter. My daughters pediatrician actually told me it isn't even necessary to change nipple sizes unless you needed a slower flow for a newborn but otherwise the baby will get stronger with age and be able to get milk out from the newborn nipple easier

We started out using preemie nipples and switched to the next one up around 9 or 10 weeks. If you're exclusively bottle feeding, then it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to finish a bottle, so that's a good way to know when to change. If you're also nursing, I would stay with the slowest flow unless baby is getting frustrated.

We changed ours when it started taking her 45+ minutes to finish 4oz. She was also getting frustrated while eating because it wasn't coming out fast enough.

Usually when the baby shows signs of discontent like spitting the nipple out in frustration and just not drinking well.
