Keeping placenta attached to baby after birth?

I would love to hear your opinions on Lotus Birthing.

Once blood transfer has finished (a few minutes) it’s basically just a dying, rotting piece of tissue

once the blood is out I see no reason to keep the placenta attached.  Plus doctors say there is no reason that it can cause infection.

I'm not even sure what the benefits of allowing a dead piece of tissue to rot off on it's own would be. I dont know of any other animal in the world that does the same either. It sounds like a huge risk of infection.

It can cause infection because it’s just a useless dead rotting organ once it’s delivered.  The fact that you have to “preserve” it with salts and mask the rotting odor is enough to say it’s not natural and shouldn’t be done.  
To each their own but every instinct in me screams against that.
I will have the cord clamped and cut after it stops pulsating if possible.  With my second daughter, that wasn’t even possible because the cord was around her neck three times and I couldn’t even finish delivering her without them cutting it because the cord was too short.

I had 2 lotus births. It was amazing. I didn’t leave them attached for too long but i ended up needing stitches with my daughter that took about 2 hours so that was a bit longer than imagined. Afterward I got in the tub with her and the placenta was in a bowl on the floor beside. I waited until all the blood was drained into her body before detaching. My son was attached to his for about an hour. I made sure all blood was drained and cord was not pulsing before cutting. There’s nothing really any different about having them attached for a bit. 🤷🏽‍♀️
