Leaving kid home alone

Do you let your kids stay home alone? My daughter is 8 and pretty responsible. She was wanting to stay home for an hour while I ran to the store. My husband was iffy but I felt comfortable with her staying there for a short period of time, with a phone so she could contact me. What are your thoughts?
