Is Seattle WA racist to blacks?

Everywhere is. It’s institutionally implemented into world society, not bound by geography.

Yup. I’m an Oregon resident now but lived in Olympia WA. Seattle is pretty liberal but like much of the west coast and everywhere really racism is still an issue. 
It was only maybe a year ago that Seattle put forth housing bills to try to help people that had criminal histories, even something as simple as an arrest without any actions taken and then being released, to get housing. A large portion of the bill was intended to aid POC with housing because POC are at a heightened risk of arrest, convictions etc because of a racist system that often singles them out.

I lived in Spokane, WA but would visit Seattle frequently. 
first of all, it’s a beautiful place, the architecture, the scenery, it’s all stunning. 
there is an absolute melting pot of people and that makes it even better. during many visits there, I never saw anyone being discriminated against for any reason.
I will say the cost of living in Seattle is really outrageous, my husband I strongly wanted to move there but couldn’t justify it with the overinflated costs. and parking pretty much anywhere is a huge problem. 
but I absolutely understand you wanting to live there, it’s beautiful and always something to do!

I know one black guy in the Seattle area (and his kids). He still experiences institutional racism - cops pull him over occasionally, I think one of the kids had something similar happen with security at his school (I literally cannot remember the story now.) But I don't think that they meet much racism from their fellow citizens. Also, when his wife tells me about this stuff (she's white), she always tells me about it in a way that suggests that sort of thing shouldn't happen in Seattle, because Seattle is supposed to be one of the least-racist places in the country - so, if it happens there, she doesn't want to think about the rest of the country, etc.

I was born, raised, and am currently residing in Seattle as a beautiful black woman. As far as racism...I really don't encounter it very much and I live in a predominantly white area. I grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood, so it's very different for me to not see people who look like me. In the past I've had people (black or mixed race) comment on my choice of partner because he is lacking melanin. I've never been called the n-word by some angry stranger, but just last week a white woman mumbled the n-word in passing while referring to another black woman she'd just passed. It hurt and made me so angry regardless though. I also have Sisterlocks (a type of loc'd hairstyle) and have never had an issue getting a job or faced discrimination because I choose to wear my hair naturally. Of course racism is everywhere, especially at this time where there's so much tension and entitlement. But I enjoy living here, minus the rain.

I live in Seattle. There are many great things about Seattle, but yes, it can be racist. I am a white person, so I don’t have as much insight as people of color would, but since most of the comments are saying Seattle isn’t racist, I felt like I had to say what I have noticed and what my friends have told me. First of all, neighborhoods aren’t well integrated because of a history of redlining, and the school district used to bus kids all over in an effort to integrate schools, but has stopped doing that. So there are schools that are predominantly white and schools that are predominantly kids of color. 
Seattle has a reputation for being cold and I think being passive aggressive comes along with that. As a result, the racism is coded and easy for whites people to ignore. You’re not going to see confederate flags, but you’ll definitely have times when you’re treated differently at businesses because of your skin color. Seattlites generally pride themselves on being progressive, which can sometimes get in the way of actually addressing issues like racism. 
It’s not a terrible place and there are lots of smart people working to make it better than it is, and I am sure every city in America (and beyond!) has issues with racism because it’s just so ingrained in people’s patterns of thought and all of our institutions. Just had to say, Seattle, in all of its progressiveness, is still sadly racist.

I've only been there once, but isn't it a pretty democratic area? I wouldn't picture it as racist. Is there a reason you're asking specifically about seattle?
