What age did you turn cot into toddler bed?

When did your kids transition from cot to “big kids” bed?  My daughter is 16 months and she keeps trying to come out of her cot bed

My oldest was over 3 when we switched him. He never tired to climb out but I was pregnant and needed the crib for the new baby. Our 2 year old is still in a crib. Again never tried to get out.

He was 2 and finally became adventurous enough to try and climb out..

Once they can climb out, I’d say it’s time to switch - because what if they fell while trying to get out?

We converted to a toddler bed around 18M, but he would ALWAYS fall out. I had to put a mountain of blankets by it every night, which got ridiculous. Around 2.5, I bought him a Montessori bed on Etsy. It sits on the ground and has rails around it, and it’s perfect for me to lay in with him too. Here’s him, dad, and Curious George in the Montessori bed. I expect I will put my next kiddo in one of these too, I was so surprised by how big my crib was when I converted it to a bed. It’s a full and VERY tall, so it took up way too much room in his bedroom and I thought he would break his neck. This one is a twin and will be perfect for years to come.
