Receiving Blankets—? 🤔

Question

I don’t get receiving blankets. What are they for? 
I mean, I just washed all the ones we got, so no taking them back now...but it just dawned on me I don’t understand what we’re supposed to do with them.

Oh man, little blankets and muslin swaddle cloths are super useful. It's also great to have a lot of them so you don't have to wash the same one all the time. They can be used for: on-the-go tummy time spread, changing pad, burp cloth, nursing cover, carseat cover (as long as you're watching while it's covered with the loose blanket!), extra wrap for baby outside, stroller blanket... The list goes on. As you can see, I'm a big fan! 😂

They make great burp rags! Both my kids spit up exorcist style so it was always a necessity

I was wondering the same thing! (The basic flannel ones that come in packs) They are too small for a good swaddle and I have burp cloths already that are much more absorbent. I was thinking I’d line the changing table with them so if poop gets on it I can just toss the blanket in the hamper and won’t have to change out the whole cover. Maybe also in the diaper bag to change baby on. Beyond that I’m stumped.

Burp cloths, swaddling, putting down when changing diaper in public or home, cleaning up messes.  Get creative, they have many uses lol.

I never used them with my first and don’t really think I will with this one either. 😬 I kind of don’t like the texture. I love the muslin for swaddling and prefer the smaller burp clothes for spit ups and spills. But we got a big pack of receiving blankets from a relative this time so I guess we’ll see. 😂

I have a giant pile from my first baby that I almost never used! I did use them to cover baby in the car seat if we were walking outside and it was chilly. Occasionally to wipe his mouth if he spit up and it was the closest to me. That’s it!

Swaddling, spit up, an extra layer if it’s breezy, covering a rough surface so you can set baby down, wiping drool, covering the car seat from bright sunlight—whatever you can imagine! That’s why you get a million cheap ones, so you don’t have to sacrifice nicer blankets to drool and puke!
