Dying bleached blonde hair tips?

Hey y’all I know this is a long shot. But I don’t work and I’ve dyed my hair for years myself. I have naturally dark almost black hair, I’ve dyed it blonde to bleach blonde for a year now.. I’m looking to eventually go back to my natural roots due to the upkeep of blonde and my roots always being brassy no matter what! I want to dye the whole head a dark blonde/ light brown for right now. I’ve looked up articles and videos and everyone’s doing the light to super dark in them I don’t want to do that and potentially lose my hair or make it some wild color I can’t escape haha. I asked a Sally’s employee but they didn’t seem to grasp what I was asking. I recently got into a relationship and have been meeting all of his family and I’m meeting a ton of his fraternity brothers with their sorority wives/fiancés/girlfriends next month and I don’t come from much so I’m trying to make a good impression while being myself! I really love myself as a blonde just the upkeep especially when I can’t afford to go to a salon and have it done right is getting annoying and boring..
