It's a stupid custom. The entire drama surrounding it, you have to attend with a partner, election of prom queen, all that, gross me out. I never cared about dating in high school, I really wasn't interested. I was reading books, and working a part time job. I hang out with a few friends, boys and girls. But I never had any romantic feelings about any of the boys. Imagine what it would do to our friendship if one of them felt obligated to ask me for prom. Imagine how much stress it would be if, on top of our university entrance exam, we needed to navigate the gossip/cliquish hell of prom queen election. It's the worst kind of toxic teenager drama I absolutely detest since I outgrew Jane Eyre when I was 16. I can't imagine why schools would encourage such bullshit year after year. Prom dresses are expensive too, you are either waste your own money or your parents. I focused on getting into the school I can, instead of going to prom!

Yes. Loved both proms even though my ex boyfriend broke up with me the day of both times. Getting dolled up and having a blast with my friends was the thrill of it for me.

I went to homecoming and other dances but never went to prom. I didn’t miss out on anything so it’s whatever 💁🏽

Yup I went to all the homecoming and proms for both my and my husband’s school. We dated all though high school so it was good memories for us, however my schools events were pretty shitty. 
I went to a lesser named Catholic school that pretended to be top class and tried to make up for it by being extra strict. 
They played Miley Cyrus songs at our senior prom, tried to make us have a “leave room for Jesus” policy while dancing and one of the teachers actually pinned my dress shut (along with many others) because she found it too revealing. Trust me, it wasn’t.
My husband went to what was considered the raunchy, country club prep catholic school and they didn’t try to take themselves as seriously. 
They played rap songs, we danced how we liked and went to extravagant locations for the dances. We to this day talk about the guy in his gf who dressed as ketchup and mustard, or the dude who dropped acid and ran around the dance shirtless with his tie around his head raving by himself.
I think it’s just a fun opportunity to make memories.

Yep, but I went dateless with my friends. The venue was super lame and I only went senior year. Me and best friends went out to dinner and got dolled up instead.

No. I had no interest in it. I just hung out with my boyfriend (now husband), ate tacos, and watched shitty redbox horror movies.

Yea and I thought it was so disappointing lol. I didn't have a lot of friends in high school, or care about the idea of prom. I really just wanted to have a fun night with my date, and it was just weird for both of us. We had way more fun getting Sonic after prom than we did at prom.
