Would you pull your 1 or 2-year-old out of a daycare because they got bit?
I personally wouldn’t. As long as it was reported to me then I wouldn’t.
Biting is a developmentally appropriate way for some toddlers to express frustration and test boundaries. Their language skills are still developing and they don’t know how to express emotion appropriately yet.
I used to work in a 1-year-old room and parents would flip out if their kid got bit. Not only at the other kid, but the teachers, which was annoying. Biting incidents always happen in a split second and are hard to prevent if you aren’t within an arms reach of the children.
Personally, I think parents who get mad at little kids for biting need to chill out. It’s a little kid. They’re still learning. So yeah, your kid got hurt, but it isn’t the end of the world. Biting behavior can be corrected with positive reinforcement and teaching appropriate replacement behaviors. No need to “expel” a toddler or find a new daycare.
