Gavin and Smithy crossing the bridge
Okay so your best bet is to watch the YouTube video titled ‘Ness in labour - Gavin and Stacey - BBC comedy’ to get a full understanding of this but I’ll provide a summary. James Cordon is in it if that interests you a bit more. it’s only 2 minutes long and it’s a good laugh
Gavin and Smithy are in England, and they girlfriend/woman they knocked up are in Wales, and are rushing to get to Barry as one of the girls is in labour. Until recently, you had to pay to cross the bridge to get into wales. In the clip Gav and Smithy get to the toll booths and realise they only have £5, 10p short of the few required to get across the bridge. The toll woman says they can’t get into the country without the sufficient funds, and the boys argue that Nessa is in labour and they’re only 10p short and should be let through. The woman refuses, and Smithy gets out of the car and lifts up the barrier so they can drive through. They speed off. Then they seen being pulled over by an officer who says their story is ridiculous because of the woman and says he’d have done the same. He also tells them that if they step on it they’ll make it in 10
My questions:
• in this scenario, as a partner trying to make it to the birth of your child, would you have done the same?
• as the toll officer, would you have let them through with insufficient funds?
• as a police officer, would you have let them get away with it with no consequences?
