Is it inappropriate to kiss your baby/child on the lips?

When I was a kid my mom never ever kissed me on the lips, and if I tried to kiss her on the lips she would swerve her head and I would land on her cheek or her hairline or wherever. When other family members would kiss me on the mouth she would get extremely upset. I personally never understood the issue, but I do remember being surprised when I saw other parents kissing their children on the mouths. I know it’s important to not kiss a baby on the mouth if you are not the parent because of germs and HPV-1, but I’m not talking about lip-kissing regarding germs, just regarding the appropriateness of it.

I’ve seen more debate about this recently and I’m curious. Leave your reasoning for why you do or don’t think it’s okay to kiss your child (or niece, nephew, grandchild, etc) on the mouth.
