Breastfeeding and pacifiers... anyone exclusively breastfeeding? Do you use a pacifier?

FTM- I’m attempting to exclusively breastfeed but find that little one wants to suck all the time as a soothing method. At first I just fed him when this happened but now I’m EXHAUSTED and could use some sleep. What are your experiences with this?

At my BF class, the nurse recommended waiting to use the pacifier until you have a solid hold on BF, both you and baby. So if your little is still struggling to latch or not quite a pro yet her advice was to wait. But after they become pro and comfortable then to go for a pacifier if that’s what you want to use. 
Haven’t had my baby yet... 🥺😩 so no experience. Just thought I’d pass along the advice I was given in a class.

I breastfed for 12 months and had no issues with confusion. If their latch is good and they are feeding great it’s unlikely they would suddenly develop issues. Mam pacifiers are good

I withheld the pacifier from my first box I was so scared. With the second (and now third), those things come to the hospital. It is a myth, IMO.

I honestly would have had an even worse emotional breakdown the 1st night home if i hadn’t given my baby the paci lol my husband and i are so much happier too bc we are able to ease her into sleep w it. I will say tho I try to limit the paci for car rides, to soothe before going to bed OR during diaper changes bc she screams so much. We haven’t had a problem & I’ve been switching between 2 different paci types 👍🏼

Currently my newborn uses a pacifier only sometimes but still prefers comfort nursing.

My baby had a MASSIVE sucking reflex and from day 1 the midwife recommended a pacifier cause I was non stop breastfeeding. I ignored the advice, it was tough going as I would feed him for 2 hours straight and he was throwing up a lot. Too much milk. He ended up having a pacifier. 
I'm pregnant with my 2nd and I'm telling you now if this baby is the same it is getting a pacifier.

I chose yes but I didn’t have any issues. I did breastfeeding, pumping and bottle feeding, and my son had a paci without issue.

My kids never took a pacifier. I mean I tried but the turkeys wouldn’t take them. Now I have 2 thumb suckers and really wish they would have taken the pacifier 🤦🏼‍♀️

I breastfed my son for 2 years and never used a dummy, never needed them. My son only cried if he needed a cuddle, food or his nappy which I sorted so he didn’t cry for long periods at all (lucky I know). Breastfeeding was really easy and a life saver once I got the hang of it. Took me about 6 weeks to fully establish it. The first couple of weeks were tough, mainly the lack of support from family who repeatedly kept telling me to try a bottle, try a dummy. But I distanced myself and fought through and once established it was super. Brilliant through illness and the bonding was priceless. I’ll be exclusively breastfeeding again with my second. Remember if you need any support or advice, there are lots of support groups that are invaluable. Good luck and best wishes!
